Ministry

The Rev. Justin M. McCreary, Minister
Justin has served as minister of Hope Unitarian since August 2022. Before coming to Tulsa, he spent seven years leading the Unitarian Universalist Church of Jackson, Mississippi — a chapter that followed an unusually early start in ministry. Justin preached his first sermon at just 12 years old at his home church in Wheeling, West Virginia, and a call to social justice work took root in him long before he ever found his way to Unitarian Universalism. He earned his M.Div from Harding School of Theology, a Church of Christ seminary, and it was later, while completing his Clinical Pastoral Education at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee, that he began to notice his call to Unitarian Universalism.
At the heart of Justin’s theology is process thought — the conviction that the sacred is never fixed or finished, but always unfolding, and that we’re invited to be co-creators in that ongoing work. He believes we are all connected by a divine thread that runs within all of us, a current binding every living thing into one unfolding whole. That conviction has long shaped how he shows up in the world: during his years in Mississippi, he partnered with organizations like the NAACP, the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance, and the      Poor People’s Campaign, carrying his faith directly into the work of justice.
Justin is married to Alicia, and together they raised two step-daughters, Corie and Jessica, both now grown. When he’s not at the church, you’ll likely find him out fishing, tinkering with electronics, running something new off his 3D printer, or geeking out over computers and science education.
