Becoming a member of Hope is the conscious act of moving into a covenantal relationship with a religious community where faith is about being faithful and loyal to the spirit of Hope's covenant:
Love is the Spirit of this Church
and Service its Law.
This is our Great Covenant:
to dwell together in Peace;
to seek the truth in Love; and
to help one another.
Becoming a member is about making a commitment to regularly participate in the life of our community, especially the center of our community activity - the Sunday morning service; pledging to financially support the church at a level commensurate with your means; volunteering acts of service from time to time for the church and something beyond the church; and making a commitment to learning and spiritual growth by regularly reading, studying or participating in a class or discussion that will challenge you and make you think.
Ask yourself these questions:
Have you attended the worship service several times?
Have you talked to some people at the church about what Hope means to them?
Have you talked to the Minister about membership and/or attended a Roots or Basics of the Free Church class?
Have you found found the need to support a religious community where you need not think alike to love alike?
A flaming chalice - symbolizing religious freedom and those who have died for it - is lighted at the beginning of each worship service.
